Description:

This internship is part of the Spring 2026 Professional Internship Program. To be eligible for the program you must:

  • Be enrolled as an SUU student during the course of the internship.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be willing to work 10 to 20 hours per week.

The Writing Center tutor mentor is responsible for mentoring individual tutors by meeting with them one-on-one and helping them resolve challenges (or bringing those challenges to the Writing Center Director). They will also shadow the current student directors, gradually taking on some of the student director roles (scheduling, training, observing, etc.) and becoming a student director in Fall 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly student director meetings and carry out assignments from the meeting
  • Meet one-on-one with tutors to help them resolve challenges
  • Shadow student directors and learn how to schedule tutors, analyze monthly numbers, run staff meetings, and other duties as needed
  • The tutor mentor would also be encouraged to develop their own project to improve the writing center

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and take on increasing responsibilities over time
  • Experience with peer tutoring
